Share Your Feedback: Great Schools = Great Community Online Surveys

Kearney School District is continuing its Great Schools = Great Community public engagement work focused on long-term financial stability and long-range facility planning, and community feedback is an important part of that process. No final decisions have been made. KSD is currently gathering input through a random telephone survey and three online surveys for community members, parents/guardians and staff. Each online survey takes about 5 to 7 minutes and will remain open through Tuesday, Oct. 13. Before responding, stakeholders are encouraged to review the information, tools and FAQ available at ksdr1.net/greatschools to learn more about the challenges, options and questions being considered. Take a few minutes to learn more and make sure your voice is part of the conversation.

Bulldog Football Heads to St. Pius Friday Night

Parking and seating will both be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans are encouraged to carpool, and spectators should be prepared for standing room only once available seating is filled. Visit the St. Pius High School online box office to purchase tickets.

Help Save a Life at the KHS HOSA Blood Drive

Kearney High School HOSA students are inviting our community to roll up their sleeves and help save lives during their upcoming blood drive.

The Community Blood Center is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage, making every donation especially important. At the same time, donors will be supporting KHS HOSA students as they work toward their goal of collecting 65 or more units of blood this year.

KHS HOSA Blood Drive

Community members can schedule an appointment at savealifenow.org/group using group code 7H.

As an added thank-you, donors can receive a stainless steel flip-spout water bottle while supplies last. Please consider giving a little of your time to make a potentially life-saving difference for someone in our community.

Start Thanksgiving with a Bulldog Tradition: 2026 Turkey Trot

Registration is now open for one of Kearney’s favorite Thanksgiving traditions!

The 15th Annual KSD Education Foundation Turkey Trot will step off at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 26, at Kearney High School Stadium. Families, students, alumni and community members are invited to start the holiday together with a 4-mile or 1-mile walk/run, plus a free Tot Trot for the youngest Bulldogs. A virtual option will also be available Nov. 24-29 for those who want to participate wherever Thanksgiving takes them.

Even better, every step supports Kearney students. Registration fees, donations and sponsorships benefit KSD Education Foundation classroom grants and scholarships while also supporting the Kearney High School Cross Country team. The Foundation’s work helps provide learning opportunities and resources beyond what the regular district budget can support.

Early-bird registration is $30 through Oct. 11 and includes the 2026 Turkey Trot race shirt. Regular registration will be $35 through Nov. 8. Participants can also register later, although race shirts are not included with late registration.

Whether you plan to race, walk with family and friends or simply enjoy being part of a great Kearney tradition, the Turkey Trot is a wonderful way to begin Thanksgiving while supporting our Bulldogs.

KHS Yearbook Earns All-Missouri Honors

A group of fifteen high school students posing together on purple and gray gymnasium bleachers.
Congratulations to the 2025-2026 Kearney High School yearbook staff for earning an outstanding All-Missouri rating from the Missouri Interscholastic Journalism Association!

The students earned an incredible 494 out of 500 possible points in the association’s overall yearbook critique. Their work received perfect scores in writing and editing, design and photography, along with 99 out of 100 points for theme/concept/services and 95 out of 100 for coverage.

The All-Missouri designation is the highest rating awarded through the critique process, and this marks the first time a KHS yearbook has earned the honor since the 2021-2022 school year.

Producing a yearbook requires months of reporting, writing, editing, photography, design and careful attention to detail. This recognition reflects the talent, creativity and hard work of our student journalists and the guidance of KHS Publications/Broadcasting Teacher Jackie Uptegrove. Congratulations to the entire yearbook staff on this tremendous achievement!

Go Bulldogs!

Dogwood Bulldogs Make Birthdays Brighter

Dogwood Elementary students found a sweet way to give back during Homecoming Week!

The Dogwood community joined forces with Kearney High School to collect supplies for Birthday Kits for the Kearney Food Pantry. Together, our Dogwood Bulldogs donated 59 cake mixes, 43 tubs of frosting, 65 cans of Sprite, 33 baking pans and 22 packs of birthday candles.

Dogwood’s fourth-grade Student Council representatives are pictured here with just some of the supplies collected.

Thank you to our students, families and staff members who helped make this effort such a success. These donations will help local families celebrate some very special days together, and that is a wonderful example of Bulldogs taking care of their community.

Bulldogs Give Back During Homecoming Week

Homecoming Week was about much more than parades, football and school spirit this year. Our Bulldogs also found an opportunity to give back.

Kearney High School’s Service Day Committee organized a food collection throughout the week, with donations gathered through Bulldog Time, athletic events and participation from other KSD schools. Together, students, staff, families and community members donated nearly 1,000 items to help support local families.

The collection included hundreds of items that can be used for Thanksgiving meal kits, along with canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal, soup, peanut butter and jelly, and other pantry staples.

Thank you to the students who led this effort, the staff members who supported them and everyone who contributed. This is Bulldog spirit at its best: coming together, serving others and strengthening our community.

Go Bulldogs!

The Bulldogs Race to A Homecoming Win!

The Kearney High School Football team capped off Homecoming Week in a big way Friday night with a 72-7 victory over Winnetonka High School.

The Bulldogs jumped out quickly, building a 37-0 lead in the first quarter and taking a 65-0 advantage into halftime on their way to the win. The victory moved KHS to 5-0 on the season.

It was a great night to be a Bulldog and a fitting finish to a memorable Homecoming Week in Kearney School District,

Check out these photos from the game and visit our friends at KPGZ 102.7FM for more details from Friday night’s matchup.

A Little Rain Couldn't Stop the Bulldogs

Rain fell throughout yesterday’s 2026 Homecoming Parade, but it certainly didn’t dampen the Bulldog spirit in downtown Kearney!

Students, staff, families and community members filled the parade route with purple and gold as the Bulldog Marching Band, cheerleaders, student groups, teams and floats made their way through downtown.

Thank you to everyone who grabbed an umbrella, pulled on a poncho and came out to celebrate our Bulldogs. It was a wet afternoon, but a wonderful reminder of the community spirit that makes Homecoming in Kearney so special.

Go Bulldogs!

And last but not least...

Recess Forever Brings Retired Bulldogs Back Together

Kearney School District was delighted to welcome members of Recess Forever back to Kearney Junior High on Wednesday, Sept. 30, for the group’s annual luncheon.

Recess Forever is a group created for retired KSD employees, giving former colleagues an opportunity to stay connected to one another and to the school community they helped build.

This year’s gathering included plenty of time to visit, catch up and reconnect. Superintendent Dr. Emily Miller also shared an update about KSD’s Great Schools = Great Community initiative and the important conversations underway about the district’s future. There was even a little extra fun with a raffle for the mums that helped decorate the event!

Recess Forever is led by retired Kearney Junior High special education teacher Jennifer Pearson. Retired KSD employees who would like to learn more or connect with the group can email recessforeverksd@gmail.com.

Thank you to our Recess Forever members for the many years they devoted to KSD students and families. Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog!
