The first day of the MSHSAA Class 4 Track & Field State Championships turned into a long, wet waiting game for our Kearney Bulldogs.

Monsoon-like rain and recurring lightning moved through Jefferson City throughout the day on Friday, forcing MSHSAA officials to delay most of the scheduled events until Saturday, May 30.

A few events were able to get started before the weather took over. We were able to capture photos of our Bulldogs competing in Boys Javelin and the Boys 4x800m Relay before the rest of the day was put on hold.

Our KHS student-athletes, coaches and families handled a tough situation with patience, flexibility and the kind of positive attitude that makes us proud. It takes a lot of focus to prepare for the biggest meet of the season, then sit through delays, downpours and uncertainty while waiting for your chance to compete.

The good news is that our Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City. MSHSAA has updated the schedule, with running and field events beginning at 9 a.m. on a rolling schedule.

Families and fans should check MSHSAA Track & Field Information Central before heading to the stadium for the latest schedule, ticket and live results information.

Good luck tomorrow, Bulldogs! We’re proud of you and can’t wait to see you compete!
