Lock & Teach Lifted at KHS, KJH & Southview

Posted Date: 11/03/25 (9:16 AM)

This morning, KHS, KJH and Southview were placed in a Lock & Teach status. That status has now been lifted, and all students and staff are safe. School administrators and law enforcement officials confiscated a weapon from a parked vehicle in the lot at the tennis courts on Kearney School District's South Campus. A student in possession of any type of weapon on school property is in violation of our student code of conduct and KSD Board policy. The students involved will be disciplined accordingly. We're grateful for the students who reported this situation to our school administrators. We are also thankful to our school safety personnel and our Kearney Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Department partners for their swift response and support. Please take this opportunity to talk with your student about school safety, as well as remind them to report any unsafe situation or behavior to an adult. If you see something, say something.
