IMPORTANT INFO: Bulldog Homecoming State of Mind

Posted Date: 9/24/25 (9:42 AM)

A bulldog statue, holding a torch and football, represents a school's homecoming.

Our entire community is invited to celebrate and support our Bulldogs during the 2025 Homecoming Parade starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, in downtown Kearney. This year’s parade promises to be a magical experience, with floats that match the week's theme, “Homecoming State of Mind 2025.” It’s a great opportunity to cheer on our students who are involved in sports, performing arts, clubs, public service organizations and other activities.

Parade Participation

Any organizations wishing to participate in this year’s Homecoming Parade will need to complete either the attached or digital version of the parade entry form. The parade entry form needs to be turned in to Kearney High School teacher Brittini Starzl by Friday, Oct. 3, 2025. In addition, all students who are participating in the parade will need to have the Kearney School District Activity Permission Slip completed by their parents/guardians and returned to the entry organizer. All parade entries are also required to have a representative attend a pre-event meeting that will start at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the new gym at KHS.

Approved parade participants will begin lining up at 12:30 p.m. in the areas designated in the route map below:

Parade Safety

As we’ve done in the past, we plan to mark chalk boundaries along each side of the parade route along Washington Street from Clark Street to Prospect Street to help keep everyone safe. If you have a child who plans to be at the parade, please instruct them to stay out of the area between the chalk lines. This will give the marchers and float operators plenty of room to maneuver. It’s very dangerous for children to dash in front of the parade participants.

All elementary students should be under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times. It’s also important to have a clear plan to safely pick up your child after the event if they are being dropped off to participate in or watch the parade. A number of downtown streets will be closed that day. A map is included below. Keep in mind that the area around Kearney Middle School and the church parking lot on South Grove Street will be very busy and likely inaccessible as the parade ends.

Half-Day Schedule

Friday, Oct. 10, will be a half-day for students. Kearney Middle School, Kearney Junior High and Kearney High School will dismiss at 10:30 a.m.; the elementary schools will dismiss students at 11:35 a.m.

Homecoming Week

Homecoming Week will include fun celebrations and events across KSD, including theme days. The always popular KHS Powder Puff football game will start at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Bulldog Stadium and will feature the crowning of the 2025 Homecoming King!

Homecoming Football Game

Homecoming Week will culminate with the KHS Varsity Football team facing Raytown South starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, at Bulldog Stadium. The 2025 Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime! Game tickets may be purchased through the KHS Football digital box office. GO BULLDOGS!
