Presentation to start at 6 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Kearney High School
Kearney, Mo., November 3, 2021: Kearney School District is hosting an informational session from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10 in the Library Media Center at Kearney High School about our proposed shift to the Latin honors system and tiered diplomas to recognize our graduates.
In the Latin Honors system, every student has the opportunity to earn a Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude designation based on KSD’s definition of each of those categories. If approved, this system would replace class rankings based on grade-point averages (GPA). This change would be fully implemented for the Class of 2025, which includes students who are now in ninth grade.
In addition to the Latin honors system, KSD is also considering creating tiered diplomas that recognize the value of both college and career pathways. To enhance the diploma acquisition process, we are recommending that we embed the district’s Real World Learning and Market Value Asset (MVA) focus into our graduation requirement framework.
Parents/guardians of students at Kearney Middle School, Kearney Junior High School and Kearney High School are strongly encouraged to attend this presentation. Visit bit.ly/ksd-latinhonors-present to RSVP. Questions about this proposed shift to the Latin honors system and tiered diplomas can be directed to Assistant Superintendent for Academic Services Jennifer Kopp at koppj@ksdr1.net.
