I am proud to announce that after an exhausting state competition, the Kearney boys team was able to perform at a level that brought home a state trophy! We finished 4th overall, which is a huge accomplishment. It has been an amazing experience coaching these boys this year. Bringing home a state trophy is a great reward for the hard work and dedication that they put in every day. I am a very proud coach! I’m not just proud of their accomplishments, but proud to be associated with good people. We are truly blessed to be working in such a supportive school and community.
Out of the 13 boys who competed, 8 became all-state!
STATE CHAMPION 4×800 METER RELAY TEAM:
Nick Pierce
Mason Marshall
Spencer Wolters
Clayton Adams
Daniel Olson
Jacob Ewer
1600M STATE CHAMPION:
Clayton Adams
Garrett Miller finished 5th in the Discus throwing 157’9 which is his PR.
Cole Myers finished 7th in the 100m Dash. I cannot find when the last time a Kearney Sprinter was an All Stater.
Dylan Johnson finished 8th and becomes the first All State Javelin throwerin Kearney history!
Daniel Olson finished 15th in the 1600M and Jacob Ewer also finished 15th in the 3200M
Blake Weakley finished 10th in the Javelin
Clayton Adams and Nick Pierce had a great showing in the 800m. Nick ran his PR of 1:59!
Clayton Adams finished 4th in the 3200m. This was the gutsiest race he had all weekend. Clayton was supposed to run the 3200 on Friday but mother nature postponed in to Saturday. If Clayton would have gotten to run on Friday then there is no doubt in my mind that he would have won the State Championship in this event, also. By the end of the day he was exhausted and finished 4th!
Our boys 4×400 meter relay team needed to run a great race to get into the top 8. The had a lot riding on this race, and not only did they need to run a good race, but we needed to finish ahead of one team…yep…you guessed them…Webb City. There was a chance that if Webb City would have won our heat then they could have beaten us for 4th place in the meet. Our kids went out and not only CRUSHED Webb City in the race, but ran 3 seconds faster than last week, running a 3:28. The boys finished 9th. They finished .02 seconds off of 8th place. Even though they did not get into the top 8, they sealed the 4th place finish for us. That team consisted of Nick Pierce, Spencer Wolters, Ryan Hoffman, and Jacob Marshall.
Thank you to our administrative team. Eric, Dave, and Cindy were there for both days and were a tremendous help and support for both our teams. Thanks guys!
A special thank you to our assistant coaches for the work they do to prepare our athletes. The loyalty they have shown throughout the year, and their dedication to their specialties, showed this last weekend. Thank you, Chris Daniels, Caleb Diefenbach, Darla Moberly, Dana Schreivogel, Theresa Rankin, Kenny Brown, Jeff Roberts and Tom O’Brien for all of the time and effort that you give on a daily basis.
Congrats to the girls! Coach Boswell has worked his tail off and has done a tremendous job leading this very, very young group of girls. They are going to be fun to coach and watch these next few years. Congrats to my colleague and friend for putting together a great girls team.
WE LIVE IN A GREAT COMMUNITY THAT DOES GREAT THINGS! Thanks to all of your for your support!
